Our history
In 2003 charity founder, Malcom Hazell, established the
Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) with an
ambition to provide the highest standard of helicopter emergency
medical care. And that is exactly what he achieved.
During its first five years, the service became one of the first
in the UK to routinely carry consultants and doctors on board,
enabling medical intervention at the emergency scene within
minutes.
In 2008 WNAA took hold of Derbyshire, Leicestershire &
Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA), providing HEMS to its neighbouring
counties, as well as providing collaborative operations at major
trauma scenes.
Since then we have refused to stand still and we continue to
strive for excellence.
2011 saw us become one of the first, and only, Air Ambulances
registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and by the end of
the year The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS) was born.
The launch of TAAS coincided with the take over of The
Children's Air Ambulance, a bespoke transfer service for seriously
ill children to specialist units for treatment
countrywide.
The Children's Air Ambulance will be operational in 2012 and is
a further example of our commitment to provide the best outcome and
service for all patients, whatever their needs.
